‘Significantly more than reported’: Crews battle fire at Vancouver furniture warehouse

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) 鈥?What was initially reported as a dumpster fire in Vancouver quickly turned into a 2-alarm blaze, according to first responders.

The Vancouver Fire Department revealed its crews and the Clark County Fire District 6 arrived at 7017 NE St. John鈥檚 Road after 6 p.m., discovering 鈥渟ignificantly more than reported.鈥?Officials said a large dumpster was ablaze, as a 鈥渉eavy fire鈥?spread to Furniture World SW and a grass fire burned south of the business.

 

A railroad car behind the building was impacted as well, firefighters said. Officials requested a second alarm to bring additional crews and gear on the scene 鈥渄ue to the rapidly developing conditions.鈥?/p>

They then determined that the fire had spread to furniture inside the warehouse, according to VFD. Authorities reported that Furniture World employees evacuated safely, and told crews they learned of the fire after the building鈥檚 alarm went off.

Vancouver officials said 56 firefighters responded to the scene, battling the blaze in about 40 minutes.
